Foundations of Education and Teaching
The role of education and teachers in society - philosophy of education, the characteristics of effective teachers, educational systems, and professional ethics.
A six-month certificate training scholars in the working disciplines of teaching - how students learn and develop, how to plan, deliver, manage, and assess instruction, and how to grow as a professional educator.
Subject knowledge does not make a teacher. Teaching is a discipline of its own - understanding how students learn and develop, designing lessons that hold attention, managing a classroom, assessing fairly, and reaching the learners others give up on. Across six months and 120 taught hours, the Certificate in Teaching trains scholars across that full discipline, from educational psychology through curriculum design, classroom management, assessment, technology, and inclusion.
Each module is led by a working educator, and theory is taught only where it is required to act. The program concludes in a supervised teaching practicum - demonstrations, observation, peer evaluation, and a teaching portfolio - which forms the basis of the final individual assessment.
The program is structured as twelve modules of ten hours each, moving from the foundations of education and learner development through teaching method, planning, management, and assessment - concluding in a supervised teaching practicum. Each module concludes with a graded assignment.
